    Costco Expansion

InterStratics is monitoring ongoing events relating to the Costco Canadian expansion program and will provide "as is" updates based on publicly disclosed information.

InterStratics Consultants Inc. is not affiliated with the Costco or its Canadian development team.

Costco announced on June 4th 2013 at the Retail Council of Canada's Store 2013 conference that they will be opening 25 new locations across Canada with a goal to get to 110 stores.  - Financial Post

    POTENTIAL New Costco Sites

    Where will these locations be?

They have not been announced, but, we have prepared a preliminary analysis based on the population totals that are not within 10km of the current Costco portfolio. Some of these locations (Guelph) are already under construction. Others are candidates for potential locations.

Above is a preliminary review of the potential new markets for Costco. Sites were selected based on areas beyond the 10km trade area of current Costco sites. Areas with a high population potential within 20km were highlighted as potential new sites. This analysis, prepared by Interstratics, does not include additional relevant factors such as income levels.

DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE NOT OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED COSTCO LOCATIONS. THESE ARE POTENTIAL LOCATIONS BASED ON POPULATION LEVELS AND THE COSTCO NETWORK. COSTCO HAS OPENED IN SOME OF THESE LOCATIONS SINCE THIS LIST WAS COMPILED IN 2012.

I would love to see a Costco in Thunder Bay. It would serve neighbouring communities such as Nipigon, Red Rock, Geraldton, Ignace, Dryden etc.

I live in Sydney , Novascotia & the closest Costco's is 4 hrs and 30 min' away . I know we have the population on Cape Breton Island so why is it we dont have one . If U did a survey down here , i bet U would have more people than U know shop there . I know most of our friends have (including ourselves ) stopped our membership because of the drive . Please take our island into consideriation cause sometimes we feel like we are at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to good stores .

We have one in Regina but the lines are always so long that we are considering giving up our membership. It's so frustrating. If they at least had some sort of equitable line up we'd be ok with it but its one big free for all. Regina needs another Costco.

PEI is only province there is no Costco. Please open one in PEI so then Costco can say "we are nation wide". Please!

Costco please do your research! Fort McMurray, Alberta is the most profitable place for you to put a Costco. Young shopaholics who have an INDIVIDUAL income of $300,000 a year make up this city. Gross family incomes of $500,000+ is normal here. They cant find enough places to spend their money in town without driving 5 hours south to Edmonton. People would rather spend it here. A boom town/city that has doubled its population im the past few years and is expected to keep on the unprecedented growth upswing for the future. This is wealthy oil country. Every other business franchise in this city is the record breaking earner. Seriously why on earth would Fort McMurray not be on the very top of the lst?

Newfoundland has 1 Costco. It's on the East coast of the province. With the Target stores closing, maybe this is a good opportunity to move into the West Coast - Corner Brook. This is the major shopping city for the population of the rest of the province.

I lived in Ontario all my life, now since my husband retired we moved to Cape Breton n.s. I can not believe that a Costgo is not here. Why are we always left out for many things. No way will I drive 5 hours to Halifax just to shop at Costgo. It is about time that a Costgo is built here in Sydney N.S. I have heard a lot of talk about this but please....no more talk now...take action. We need one here.

The Sydney Target store (about to close) is 104.5K sq. ft. which is the ave. size of a Costco store. It is a good location with a newly built Shoppers and a newly renovated and expanded Sobeys in a rebuilt strip mall (converted from an enclosed mall).
I have never been in a Costco store since the closest ones are a 4-5 hour drive each way, but have heard a lot of good things from locals who figure the distance is worth the trip.

PLEASE BRING ONE TO SYDNEY,NS WE REALLY COULD USE ONE HERE.

Sydney, Nova Scotia would definitely benefit from having a Costco. The nearest one is a five hour drive away and there are lots of Cape Bretoners with Costco cards that make special trips to Dartmouth/Halifax for their "Costco Run". Definitely wouldn't loose money by having one in Sydney, that is for sure.

Sydney, Nova Scotia! So many people travel to Halifax to shop Costco. Would be great not to have to drive 4-5 hours for one store!!!!!!!

Oh did we mention Sydney yet? I'm not sure why we do not have one yet as it is well known that Costco would profit from this city. Yes, we travel to Halifax to shop but would we shop more frequently and spend loads of money that we otherwise would not have done so because it is so far away? Of course we would! I hear it's in the works and I sure hope so.

Costco in Sydney, for sure. there are so many daycare centers in Cape Breton that need your store. the money just for groceries would be justifiable to bring your business here.

Costco bases there stores on population in the area , they should reconsider putting the store in Sydney Nova Scotia , and base the population on the whole island of Cape Breton ,The people from the whole Island do there shopping in Sydney ,that is where the greater shopping district is located , , They should also check there membership holders and I'm sure they would find out that a lot of people who shop there Halifax and Dartmouth stores are from the Island , and it would be a treat to have our own Store and not have to travel that distance .Also they have the cruise ships coming in the harbour all summer and is a host to many tourists , also the traffic to and from Newfoundland on the Marine Atlantic Ferries would also appreciate the opportunity to shop at your retail store . I'm sure this move would be a positive one for your Company and would generate a positive business move on your part. Hn

It would be terrific if Costco came to Sydney. We need a Costco because the nearest one is a 5 hour drive. I get there only twice a year and if there was one in Sydney I know that I would shop there a lot more often. Wondering if it is worthwhile to keep my membership as I am not getting the full advantage of paying for this membership. Everyone that I know who has a membership wants to have a Costco in Sydney and other people I know won't get a membership because of the fact that they have to drive to Halifax. More members equals more sales and I know in Sydney that Costco would be wonderful as we don't have the variety that they have in other areas so there would be more people shopping at Costco. Please consider Sydney for the next Costco. I know you won't be sorry and a lot of members who travel to Halifax to go to Costco are from Cape Breton.

As Executive Members from ON for many years, we know Costco is coming to Sydney. Halifax was overrun until a Dartmouth store was added.

Beat that Gaelic drum Capers and let us be heard!

I sure wish you would consider building a Costco
In Yorkton, Saskatchewan. We have a large
Service area and only have two grocery stores
To shop at. Costco would be the best thing
To happen to Yorkton and surrounding area in like forever.
I'm pretty sure those who live in the small
Communities around Yorkton and into Manitoba
( who also come to Yorkton to shop) the
Closest Coscto to is is 2 1/2 hours away :(
Would love to see a Coscto here :) give it
Some thought- thanks from all us here :)

I am looking forward for the opening of a new Costco store somewhere around my area in the north east of Brampton. Right now I have to drive around 25 kilometers to go to Costco store either in Brampton or in Vaughn. This will be great.
